During the event that took place in Vinnutsia on the initiative of the union and a range of public organizations, people’s deputies – members of the Inter-faction union emphasized on the fact that in September the issue of adoption of the bill on strengthening accountability for violence in family will be risen. “Fines that are often paid by the victim, not the offender, should be substituted with the public works,” the Chairperson of the IFU Iryna Herashchenko stressed. The people’s deputy reminded that the mentioned draft law “On amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements re regulating the issue of liability for violence in family” (Reg. No. 1181 – IFU authorship) was submitted to the agenda on the sessions of Parliament of this convocations three times, but was not considered in the session hall.
Besides people’s deputies Iryna Herashchenko, Olena Kondratiuk, Hennadiy Tkachuk and representatives of non-governmental organizations and experts, women suffered from domestic violence and law enforcement inaction took part in the event.
During the round table discussion, the issue of lack of rehabilitation centers, professional psychologists and lawyers who could provide assistance to victims of violence was raised.
“We require public trials for the rapists and severe punishment for them. It is necessary to end impunity, this is the only way stop violence," the IFU co-chairperson summed up.
In Vinnytsia, the co-chairpersons of the Inter-faction Union “Equal Possibilities” Iryna Herashchenko and Olena Kondratiuk visited social-physiological rehabilitation centers “Promin” and “Obriy” for disabled children and youth with functional limitations.
Among the legislative initiatives exploring by the IFU - introduction of several days of parental leave for the father. People’s deputies also stressed that it is necessary to simplify the conditions for opening a children's mini-kindergartens that would dump queue to preschool education institutions and positively contributed to mothers’ returning to work.
